As the crucial months of March- May; seniors are making difficult decisions on where they want there future to be. The Barron perspective would like to highlight seniors Sifa Ansari and Crystal Boakye for their academic success in getting into great colleges.
Before even getting into college, there are certain steps to be made. Crystal explains her process as not difficult, but can be stressful balancing school with college apps.
“The whole process wasn’t terrible; was I stressed, yes. I think the worst challenge is trying to keep up with deadlines; and balancing college and school; because school work doesn’t stop as you’re trying to work on college applications,” said Boakye
Extracurriculars
To get into a good college is not just getting good grades, it’s putting yourself over the top with extra activities apart from your daily life.

“I did DECA for this year, I was Vice President last year, I am also president of the crochet club, and the national honor society. I wanted to try some things out for myself, so I also volunteered outside of school,” said Ansari
Some students do these activities; specifically for getting into a good college; while others just like to try out new clubs and organizations and eventually get recognized; like Sifa.
College Factors
For a lot of people, distance is a big factor for college. Students may have a tight knit family and not want to be very far from home.
“ My top schools were NYU, Colombia and George town. I liked the location of NYU and just there connections and engaging community. I knew I was going to be sad if I moved too far away, because I love my family too much; so when it came down to Colombia or NYU, I chose NYU.” – Boakye
For others; it could be the best option for them financially and academically according to the programs. Sifa wants to major in nuero science so at Brown they have an open curriculum where she can take whatever class; and it will count towards her major.
“I can major in neuroscience, and then maybe take a political class and it would count towards my degree which I liked; and was different from other colleges. “- Ansari
Lots of people have different factors in deciding colleges; such as location, program type, location from home, and others. The main goal, is to go to a school you believe fits you the best and will help you thrive academically and socially in the long run.

Seniors Advice
High school can be justified as just a way to have fun, be a part of sports, and spend time with your friends, and that may be true until junior year. This is the most important year since you are taking some of your hardest classes; and taking specific tests that help you get into college. However; there are some important things to keep in mind throughout the time you are in High School.
“Stay locked in, get everything done as fast as possible. My friends last year told me to start in the summer; so I did and it really helped me not be so stressed.” – Boakye
