Woodbridge students make their own slime and are graded on its stretch and pigment for the new ASMR class. ASMR was originally popularized in 2015 with videos of the topic flying across social medias.

ASMR is making its way to Woodbridge High School next fall by popular demand. ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, and different techniques are used to display satisfying noises. One example, being the most known, crunching slime into a mic.

The class was approved as an art elective on February 4th by the Woodbridge Township Board of Education. The idea behind the class was thought of by two students in the 10th grade, Nate Greener and Emmanuel Roberts.

“For awhile now, I’ve been thinking of how electives at Woodbridge High School could be more fun,” Greener said. “I wanted my peers to experience the fun in watching and creating ASMR as much I do.”

Greener has been watching ASMR for about two years. He was originally drawn in by watching an Instagram video that had a youtuber biting a pickle into the mic. “ The day that I saw that video, was the day that my life changed for the better”.

To be enrolled in the class, interested students must audition by sending their best ASMR videos to the teacher who will be in charge of the new class. Class size will be capped at 15 students, and only those with a serious talent and interest will be considered for acceptance.

When Emmanuel was asked about what he thinks of the number of students to be selected she said the following, “I think 15 is a really great number. It is still small enough for students to be focused and the class can have intimate sessions discussing how ASMR has changed their lives and where they would be if they didn’t have such an art”.

Ms. DelGandio will be teaching this course.

“I am so happy to be teaching this class. I enjoy making ASMR with my children at home so to teach other kids the beauty in ASMR is my gift to the world”, Ms.Denise stated.

Further notice of this course will be brought to students on the Woodbridge High School Twitter in August.
