(First Railroad Station [U.S.]) On This Day – January 7th

Michael Thomas, Editor

On this day, January the 7th, in the year of 1830, the United States first railroad station, located in Baltimore, Maryland, was opened.

The station was located on America’s first railroad, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. This would be the first of many train stations within the U.S., as America would see a rail boom in the years to come.

America’s expansion can be in part contributed to rail, as it allowed for relatively safe and fast travel throughout the nation, notably allowing for easier access to the West Coast (Accessible Archives).
