Barrons Bowling Rolls into the 2018 Season

Boys and Girls Bowling became white division champions against Colonia High School. Boys are currently 13-1-1 and Girls are 10-1-2.

The Lady Barrons Bowling team, coached by Ms. Small, is having a successful year thus far. She explained to The Barron Perspective how the season was going.

Barron Perspective: What are your goals for this year?
Ms. Small: Goals for the season include winning and/or finishing in the Top 3 of every weekend tournament we are entered in, winning the White Division, winning the GMC County Tournament, winning the NJSIAA State Sectional, as well as the NJSIAA State Group Championship and finally the Tournament of Champions

BP: Who is your biggest rival?

MS: Our biggest division rival is Edison and out of the division it’s East Brunswick.

BP: What fundraisers are you planning to hold?
MS: We have our annual pancake breakfast coming up on Sunday January 21st.

BP: What are plans for the offseason?
MS: In the summer we offer optional workouts but a lot of the student athletes participate in leagues that travel to national tournaments.

The Barron Perspective also interviewed Eliza Abreu, a junior captain on the team, who has unique goals and accomplishments that keep her motivated throughout the season.

Barron Perspective: What are your personal goals for this year?
Eliza Abreu: My goals this year are to qualify for GMC Individuals and also to win state or sectional championships.

BP: What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
EA: My greatest accomplishment so far would be getting my high game, a 222, and improving on my game overall.

BP: What keeps you motivated?
EA: The team keeps me motivated because we’re like a family and we’re constantly picking each other up.

BP: How do you handle pressure?
EA: When there is pressure I like to listen to music before a match, stretch, make sure to take deep breaths and not stress myself out.

James Stoveken, a junior on the team, focuses on his scores, which motivate him throughout the season.

Barron Perspective: What keeps you motivated?

James Stoveken: I put big scores, that gives me the confidence to just keep going.

BP: What do you enjoy most about bowling?
JS: Just having a good team and just doing good.

BP: What do you need improvement in?
JS: Probably my spares, anything could help pretty much.

BP: What would be a successful season for you?
JS: An undefeated season.

BP: Anything else you would like to add?
JS: We’re a good team hopefully we’ll come out on top in the long run and work together and have fun.
